Meet the Teachers

All of our teachers have successfully completed the Music Together® Teacher Training Workshop, developed by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton NJ. Additionally, all of our teachers participate in continuing education through Skills & Songs Workshops several times a year. They are passionate about music and young children, and hope to inspire a whole new generation of music makers who can sing in tune, move in rhythm and participate with joy and confidence as they create music with family and friends throughout their lives.

We love what we do--let us share it with you!

Jane is a certified Music Together Center Director, and was the first to bring Music Together to the Boulder area when she founded Music Together of Boulder in 1998. Jane is also a certified Vocal Coach, studied music theatre and child psychology at the University of Northern Colorado and CU Boulder, and has been singing, teaching, and playing piano professionally for over 30 years. In addition, she has been a member of several local performance bands, and still enjoys giging from time to time. She is very proud of her self released jazz album "Under An August Moon," which came out in 2012 and was produced by her husband, Scott Roche. She thrives on improvisation in her jazz singing and therefore loves the Music Together classroom, where the atmosphere is so rich for on-the-spot music making! Jane is grateful that her Music Together center has become such an integral part of so many Boulder families lives.

photo David Kessem

David has been a Music Together dad for 4 years, and is very excited to join the Music Together of Boulder team as a teacher. It feels like a perfect fit because two of his favorite things are playing music and playing with kids. Originally from Connecticut, David has been in Boulder for 20 years, and lives with his wife and two kids (ages 5 and 17 months) in North Boulder. David’s been writing songs since he got his first guitar at age 13 and has never stopped! He plays guitar, ukulele, and piano, and loves to make up songs that help people connect with their hearts. He also writes lots of silly songs for his kids. After earning his degree from Duke University, David studied songwriting at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and earned his Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Oregon State. He has the privilege of being a stay-at-home dad, and feels like it’s brought out his inner super hero. Additionally, David is a life coach who helps people reclaim magic in their lives.

photo Emily Pacsi

Emily grew up in Boulder, and attended a Waldorf school through eighth grade. Waldorf education gave her the gift of singing, dancing, and performing experiences. One of her teachers used a sock puppet to sing the children’s names for roll call and she always enjoyed singing back. Emily had the opportunity to work alongside CU music majors when she starred in the university’s production of The Secret Garden as a 6th grader.  She later went to Boulder High School, where she sang in all choir programs offered. Her choir director offered her solo work, and helped her to see her musical potential. Her senior year, she auditioned and was accepted for the top Jazz choir. She especially loved scat Fridays and singing songs a-cappella. That group showed her how fun & silly making music could be.

When she was 20 years old, Emily moved to San Francisco, and has been living there for the last nine years, working in the restaurant industry. Working as a server for so long has taught her to love and appreciate people. Still, she felt something was missing. To nurture her passion for music, she enrolled at City College of San Francisco to take vocal, piano and music theory classes. In the winter of 2015, Emily began working at a day care center in Novato, and soon learned that she loved taking care of and working with children. She first heard about Music Together about eight years ago, and completed the Music Together teacher training in 2016.

Emily recently moved back to Boulder because she missed her mom, and she is currently the assistant wine director at Black Cat. She is thrilled to be part of the Music Together family here in Boulder. It truly fills her heart and soul to teach families how to sing, dance, and be silly.
