Family Class Outside

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five—and through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers, grouping children of a variety of ages in one class. This approach fosters natural, family-style learning where younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together.

Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing, or exploring musical instruments. We welcome the whole family to join in this important family music experience, and any caregiver—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the child(ren) to class.

Each semester includes:

  • Weekly 40-minute classes teaching a new song collection every fall, winter and spring.
  • New CDs each semester with the songs, rhythm chants, "play-alongs," tonal and rhythm patterns used in class.
  • Beautifully illustrated songbook with family activities to enjoy at home.
  • Parent education resources and online resources.

We will meet outside and maintain physical distance.  Grownups will wear masks and instruments will be provided for each family/group.  In the event that we are unable to meet in person, class will be held at the scheduled time on Zoom.

Babies Class

Your baby is musical, and this is a class for YOU! All children benefit from from early exposure to music and movement. Learn how to support your baby's development, meet other new parents, and expand your own musical repertoire.

The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. Each family will receive a download code that contains 18 lullabies and a booklet with lyrics.

We will begin with introductions to get to know you and your little one, followed by a 40 minute class, and concluding with an after-class social time to discuss what's important to you as new parents.

  • make up their own drumming patterns

  • invent new ways to play rhythm instruments (shakers, sticks, etc.)

  • create movement ideas for songs

  • even take a drum solo!

Rhythm Kids carries on the Music Together® vision to help children complete the pathway of early childhood music development from birth through age eight. Classes and include:

  • 10 weekly, 40-minute Zoom classes

  • Songbook and CD each semester

  • Access to online drum-play videos and other material

Children will:

  • Explore the world of rhythm through movement, instrument play, and song

  • Develop basic rhythm skills, like keeping beat, improvising, ensemble play, and soloing

  • Learn to create, cooperate, and express themselves musically

You don't need a real drum for the class, but if you’d like your child to have a drum to play at home, please ask your teacher about the special discounts on djembe drums that are available to Music Together families.
