Family Class: ages 0-5

Welcome to a lifetime of music!

This is the essential Music Together®® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five—and through all nine song collections. The family class follows the recommendations of child development researchers, grouping children of a variety of ages in one class. This approach fosters natural, family-style learning where younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together.

Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing, or exploring musical instruments. We welcome the whole family to join in this important family music experience, and any caregiver—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the child(ren) to class.

Each semester includes:

  • Weekly 45-minute classes teaching a new song collection every fall, winter and spring, and summer.
  • New CDs each semester with the songs, rhythm chants, "play-alongs," tonal and rhythm patterns used in class.
  • A download code to access all your music digitally.
  • Beautifully illustrated songbook with family activities to enjoy at home.
  • Parent education resources and online resources.
  • In the event that we are unable to meet in person, class will be rescheduled.

Music Together rotates through 9 song collections over a 3-year period, so you and your child learn new songs every semester. With songs from a wide variety of musical traditions, and in several languages, you are sure to find a favorite song in each exciting collection!

Master's Class: 3.5--5 years old
How is a Master's Class different from a typical Mixed Ages class?
This class is similar in structure to a Mixed Ages class. However, in this family-style class, the teacher may extend musical activities to include exploration in rhythm improvisation, independent singing, dance improvisation, and dramatic play. The Music Together approach has been integrated with great success into the preschool setting and we utilize our experience in that realm to inform our work in the music classroom for 3-5 year old children and their parents or caregiver.
Do I attend the Master's Class with my child?
Yes. Remember that you are still your child's most important role model, especially during this crucial stage of primary music development. Your participation and enjoyment is essential to their musical growth. The most important things you can model for your child are simply pleasure, interest, and the desire to participate in music activities!
Can my younger child attend the Master's Class as well?
Yes, younger siblings are welcome to be registered in the Master's Class with their older siblings.
